HelplessIt was evening, and winter had almost passed. The days were getting gradually longer, and tonight’s was an especially beautiful sunset. We were lounging in a sheltered alcove on one of the flat dusty roofs of Jahærnén, and had been for the past few hours. Earlier on, cats and lizards had scampered past in the pale, wan sunrays, but now the night’s chill was setting in, and it was clear winter had not retreated entirely yet.
